SUGARCRM OBTAINS $18.77 MILLION US FUNDING ROUND. SugarCRM, an open source CRM company, obtains $18.77 million US in its Series C investment round from New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Walden International.

FIREFOX SURPASSES 100 MILLION DOWNLOADS. Firefox, the popular open source Internet browser, surpasses 100 million downloads less than one year after its official launch.

RED HAT FOUNDER RESIGNS FROM BOARD. Bob Young, the co-founder and former executive of Red Hat, resigns from the Board of Directors to pursue other opportunities.

SURVEY SHOWS GROWTH IN OPEN SOURCE DATABASE MARKET. Evans Data Corporation releases the results of a survey showing a 20% growth in open source database deployments in the past six months, and showing that proprietary databases are twice as likely to suffer from security breaches.

PERU APPROVES OPEN SOURCE BILL. Alejandro Toledo, the president of Peru, signed legislation last week allowing public institutions to consider the adoption of open source software.
