SURVEY SHOWS RAPID RESPONSE TO BUGS BY OPEN SOURCE DEVELOPERS. Evans Data Corporation releases the results of a survey showing that two in five open source developers fix bugs in under eight hours. In addition, seventeen percent of open source developers find and repair severe bugs in less than four business hours.
SUPERCOMPUTER SURVEY SHOWS LINUX AS TOP OS. The Top500 Supercomputer Sites survey for November 2005 shows Linux has a 75% operating systems share for the top 500 publicly known supercomputers in the world.
OSDL LAUNCHES PATENT COMMONS REFERENCE LIBRARY. As a follow-on to their August 2005 Patent Commons project announcement, OSDL launches the Patent Commons Reference Library. The reference library includes a searchable archive of more than 500 patents pledged to the open source community.
NOVELL PRESIDENT SAYS OPEN SOURCE ADOPTION IN DATA CENTERS SLOWING. Ron Hovsepian, president and chief operating officer of Novell, says that adoption of open source technology in data centers is slowing rather than accelerating. Hovespian says that Novell has observed a "wait-and-see" attitude toward open source from IT buyers.
SUN SUPPORTS, BUNDLES POSTGRESQL WITH SOLARIS. Sun Microsystems announces the bundling and support of the open source PostgreSQL database with the Solaris 10 operating system. Sun will offer a 24x7 support option for Solaris customers needing PostgreSQL support.
