THIS WEEK'S TOP NEWS
JBOSS ACQUIRES, OPEN SOURCES TECHNOLOGY FROM ARJUNA, HP. JBoss announces the acquisition and open sourcing of distributed transaction monitor and web services technologies from Arjuna Technologies and HP. The technology acquisitions will be included in the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite (JEMS).
SUN RELEASES OPEN SOURCE PROCESSOR DESIGN. Sun Microsystems open sources the design of its new UltraSPARC T1 microprocessor, intending to increase participation in processor architecture development and application design. The OpenSPARC Project will be available in the first quarter of 2006.
PENTAHO OBTAINS $5 MILLION US FUNDING ROUND. Pentaho, an open source business intelligence software company, obtains $5 million US in its Series A investment round from New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Index Ventures.
RED HAT ENTERS OPEN SOURCE STACK MARKET. Red Hat announces its plans to release three certified open source software stacks for Red Hat Enterprise Linux customers. These stacks will be certified and supported by Red Hat beginning in the first quarter of 2006.
BBN AWARDED UP TO $11 MILLION US FOR OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE PROJECT. BBN Technologies announces that it has been awarded up to $11 million US by the Department of Defense's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the development of open source radio systems. The program will improve wireless connectivity and performance in unpredictable urban environments.
